About

Bitterroot Magazine is published by Montana State University's English Department and is created by students. The Bitterroot flower, along with the people of Montana, endure the hardship of our long, cold winters. Through the elements, they both live on until the spring. When the sun finally comes, the Bitterroot sprouts, seemingly more vibrant than the year before.

The species name rediviva translates to "brought back to life" in Latin. Our publication returns annually in the spring, just like the Bitterroot flower. As the land thaws, the stories of the people existing within unfold, and we aim to tell them. We want to share the words of those who undergo a life in Montana, as they are, in a word, remarkable.
